Remembering Nicholas “Nick” Gloyd (KV6KLG): A Life Dedicated to Community, Service, and Connection
Nicholas “Nick” Gloyd, aged 57 of Calistoga, passed away on July 19, 2026, leaving behind a profound legacy of volunteerism, leadership, and quiet dedication to the safety and enrichment of his community. To those who worked alongside him, Nick was far more than a resident—he was a vital pillar of local communication networks and community organizations across Sonoma and Napa counties.
A Lifeline of Communication: KV6KLG
As an active and dedicated ham radio operator, Nick held the amateur radio call sign KV6KLG. His involvement with the Sonoma County Radio Amateurs and regional networks was defined by a deep sense of civic duty. Whenever local public events required complex coordination, safety monitoring, or emergency backups, Nick was among the first to step forward. He spent countless hours providing critical mobile radio support and communications infrastructure for localized regional events, including regional bicycle races and public safety outreach initiatives. His technical expertise and steady presence ensured that participants remained safe and connected when it mattered most.
Leading the Way with the Nor Cal BMW Club
Nick’s passion for service seamlessly intersected with his love for outdoor adventure. As a vital member of the Board of Directors and the official Tour Captain / Tour Director for the Nor Cal BMW Club, Nick dedicated an immense amount of personal time to organizing community rides, camping excursions, and outdoor events. He didn’t just plan routes; he guided others with a focus on safety, instruction, and inclusion. The strength and camaraderie of the club’s community are a direct reflection of his leadership and enduring friendship.
An Enduring Legacy
Whether checking in over the radio airwaves or guiding a group through the winding roads of Northern California, Nick lived his life in service of bringing people together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sam, an extended family, and a vast network of friends, riders, and operators who are profoundly grateful for his years of leadership and generosity. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact on the communities he strengthened will long endure.
